OLD APP, NOT APPLICABLE TO TST
Name: King Bradley (Wrath)
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
Age: 60
Appearance: The most immediately noticeable feature of Bradley-other than his obvious military demeanor, of course-is the eyepatch covering his left eye. The neatly groomed black mustache is a close second. His black hair is also neatly groomed, save for a few strands that always seem to hang into his face. He does look pretty good for his age; while his face shows more obvious signs, he’s incredibly well-built. His complexion is also… well, not dark, but not pale, either.
Under the aforementioned eyepatch is a scar, although he does seem to have an eye… it’s just a stark contrast from the green of his right eye. In place of a regular iris and pupil is the Oroborous symbol. If given closer examination, one would find out that it’s glass
Personality: The personality Bradley presents to the outside world is… one you wouldn’t really expect from a man of his reputation. He seems cheerful, friendly, and… admittedly somewhat eccentric. He occasionally offers his homegrown melons to people seemingly at random, frequently jokes around, and routinely skips out on work… much to the detriment of his secretary. Nevertheless, there’s a feeling that he cares about his country and the people in it, and, for the most part, he takes the more serious aspects of his job seriously.
All of the above is a lie constructed to make him much more human and appealing to the public, except for the part about him taking his job seriously. Those who had experience with him in the top brass during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 know him to be very serious, cold, and absolutely ruthless-which, given that he’s considered the embodiment of the sin of Wrath, isn’t very surprising. Furthermore, those who know him even better than the top brass know that he considers himself to be more than human due to the brainwashing and heavy training he was put through by the Illuminati, and looks down on all normal humans. He is almost entirely remorseless about anything he’s done. Despite this, if one finds out about his darkest parts of his history, he never seems as angry on the surface as one would think he would be. He’s very calm-there is very little that shocks him-and relatively civil, with the only hint of his underlying anger being his disgust at most human tendencies.
However… there are a few contradictions in his nature. Despite the fact that he claims to despise regular humans, his wife is not part of group of brainwashed men and women who are “superhuman,” and he does have a deep, sincere attachment to her. Furthermore, while he has never expressed anything but compliance to the fact that his entire life has been lived according to a set plan, he seems to find certain amusement in people disrupting it in unexpected ways.
Canon History: Bradley began life as a nameless orphan taken off the streets by a government organization that housed boys and young men, schooled them, and trained them, with the eventual result that one of them would be selected to become the Fuhrer of Amestris, a militaristic country that became extremely powerful due to the proficiency of its alchemists. Of course, this program-and the country itself-were part of a plan by an incredibly powerful, nigh-immortal Alchemist named Father to create the Philosopher’s Stone, an extremely powerful substance created by killing large numbers of people at certain locations and transmuting a huge number of human souls into it. He had done it once before, which had given him a human form (before, he was simply a talking ball of darkness in a flask) constructed of the material. Through this, he was able to create Homunculi, artificial humans that embodied the human vices that he wanted to remove from himself; Pride, Envy, Lust, Greed, Sloth, and Gluttony. Each of them was effectively immortal, and each had special powers that normal humans could not emulate.
Anyone familiar with the seven deadly sins can tell that there’s one missing. Father had a particular plan for Wrath; by injecting his Philosopher’s Stone into a human, the human would be transformed into a Homunculus, albeit one that could age and give off the appearance of being a normal human, so people would not find the ruler of their country suspicious. However, it was an exceedingly dangerous procedure, and it had killed every test subject before the subject that would eventually become Bradley. Obviously, his body did manage to accept it, and he became the Homunculus Wrath. He was given the name King Bradley, and the conspiracy to create the Stone greased his way up the ranks, allowing him to become Fuhrer by age 40. Of course, Wrath had his own merits; his reflexes were much better than the average human, allowing him to wield multiple swords with ease and escape most battles with nary a scratch. At some point in time, he got married, and at another point, they adopted a young boy named Selim (who was actually his superior Homunculus, Pride).
During his regime, the Homunculi kicked off one of the wars necessary to the creation of the Stone, the Ishbal Rebellion (or, more accurately, the Ishbal Massacre). What started out as a rebellion by a fringe group of highly religious peple kicked off by Envy posing as an Amestrian soldier and shooting an Ishbalan child escalated into all-out genocide geared towards the purpose of creating the Philosopher’s Stone. The leader of the Ishbalan religion eventually gave himself up to the Amestrian government to try and stop the war, but Bradley denied him; after all, how can one man expect his life to pay for the many other lives that have been lost in the war?
At the start of the series, Father was moving closer to his goal of creating the Stone. Bradley and a cabinet of advisors who were also in on the conspiracy essentially directed the country’s efforts to create the Stone. Bradley occasionally deals with threats to the plan, which, in the past, included the rogue Homunculus Greed and the Xingese prince Yao Ling, who attempted to capture a Homunculus for study and then became one himself… but the most pressing and constant threat consisted of members of the military itself, including Roy Mustang.
AU History: AU History: Bradley was born to an unwed mother who died soon afterwards. He would have met a similar fate-or one worse thereof-had it not been for the fortunate interference of a certain Lord Bradley, who picked him up from the orphanage almost as soon as he’d been taken in. Unfortunately, as soon as he was old enough to read, he was enrolled in an extremely rigorous program along with quite a few other young men who Lord Bradley had come upon. The program took the form of a school that raised boys from birth to their teenage years, and was run by a rather shadowy board of directors.
The school, which was located somewhere on the European continent (possibly in Prussia) was primarily concerned with rearing the boys to be kings. Each boy was given an extensive academic education, as well as rigorous physical training-swordplay, close-quarters combat, and gunplay. Each boy was also given a number instead of an actual name. The boy who would become King Bradley proved rather remarkable in terms of physical prowess, having exceptional reflexes and proving to be a quick learner. Of course, every boy numerically ahead of him went through the same process; these boys would be strapped to a bed and a concoction of experimental drugs was injected into a vein without warning, and whoever survived the treatment would be deemed physically sound enough to continue on as the directors’ choice. Of course, none survived.
Until Bradley. He didn’t exactly survive without a scratch, as the stimulant ruptured some blood vessels in his left eye, requiring its removal, but he survived. This allowed him to be let in on what the entire school was about; it was run by the notorious international conspiracy, the Illuminati, and Bradley was one of the select few to rise above the bounds of normal humanity that would normally have lead him to be killed by the injection. For the first time in his life, he was given a name. Actually, he was given two. The name he was given as a member of the Illuminati’s elite, Seven Deadly Sins-themed assassins was Wrath. The name he was given to blend in with the regular human populace was King Bradley, which reflected the organization’s intent to eventually oust the current Greek regime and reveal him as the true heir to the throne of Greece. Until that time, however, Bradley was to be a ward in the care of the British Lord Bradley and to eventually inherit his land and titles.
Of course, this wasn’t Bradley’s only duty. The formation of a British Empire intrigued the Illuminati, so he was placed into the British army. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a general before age 40. He was also instrumental in directing the Indian Rebellion of 1857, which eventually lead to India being made a part of the British Empire. With all his military duties, it was a wonder that he managed to have a personal life, but he did end up marrying a woman who he had an on-again off-again courtship with. He was given a young boy named Selim from the Illuminati’s training program to keep as a ward, and, recently, he became a Member of Parliament.
